How to install the lock?
Installing the lock is a very important thing, because your safety depends on this mechanism. Statistics claim that the majority of thefts were due to poor-quality locks, which are easily cracked. By choosing a suitable model of the lock, you can either contact the specialists to install it, or, if you know how to install the lock, do it yourself.
Installation of the padlock
Everyone knows that the locks are divided into two large groups - it is overhead and mortise. If you are not confident in your building skills, then choose the invoice lock, which is much easier to install. Before starting the installation, make sure that you have everything you need at your fingertips, namely:
- the castle itself;
- the usual pencil that you will use to mark the door;
- screwdriver and screws to it;
- drill with a set of drills of different diameters;
- chisel and building level to check the accuracy of the installed mechanism.
With a little patience, you will quickly learn how to install a lock on the door. First of all, where your lock will stand, draw a horizontal mark on the door leaf from the front and inside, as well as at the end of the door.Next, use the template, attach it to the door and mark the main points for the screws and cylinder. After that, you should drill a through hole in the center, which should coincide with the diameter of the cylinder of the patch lock. You will need a chisel or drill with a special chisel bit. In this hole you need to insert the cylinder and the locking ring, then you can fix the mounting plate for your patch lock.
Those who are not familiar with the rules of how to install a door lock should remember that the connecting rod should protrude about one centimeter behind the plate, and if the rod is larger, it should be sawed off with a hacksaw. Next, release the lock bolt, connect the rod and the slot on the back of the lock. Fix the lock with screws. On the door frame, mark the bottom and top of the latch, then install the locking bar in accordance with the notes, having previously punched a groove under it with a chisel. After the holes for the tongues are made, you should check the installation by closing the door. After you finally fixed the striker plate, the lock is installed.
Install the mortise lock
Mortise locks are considered to be the most reliable. Despite the fact that it is somewhat more difficult to install them than overheads, it is quite possible to cope with this task independently. You will need the same tools, that is, a lock, drill, pencil, screwdriver and chisel. For those who know how to properly install the lock, the start of the installation will seem familiar.
So, you should mark the pencil line where you plan to put the lock. Note the height of the well and the height of the latch. The marking line should go on both sides of the door. Draw a center line in the middle of the door edge. Next, drill holes for the lock mechanism, and drill holes for the keyhole on the front side of the door. Using a chisel, trim both sides of the nest. To check if the holes match, insert the lock and handle. Almost closing the door, mark the lower and upper bounds of the latch. Attach a striker plate to the finished markup and circle. Cut the nest so that you can drown the bar, insert the bar in place and screw it with screws.
