London Fashion Week Spring 2019 Fashion Trends
London Fashion Week for spring 2019 was full of great fashion trends that will carry us through spring and summer on a fashionable wave. The shows are set to begin in Milan today, but let’s take a moment to just appreciate and note the upcomingspring 2019 fashion trends from London Fashion Weekthat are exciting to see and will be exciting to wear next year.
#1. The Return of the Eighties and New Wave Style
This may seem as though it is a broad brush stroke to cover multiple smaller trends, but they all add into the same ‘80s aesthetic. Topshop Unique showed a lot of looks, but the very ‘80s style shoe worn by the models definitely caught a lot of eyes. Many of the outerwear pieces, suit jackets and such were very new wave in both the cut and patterns chosen for Topshop and Vivienne Westwood. Peter Pilotto and Simone Rocha also capitalized on this nostalgic fashion trend.
The models were styled with this (time long past) hair and makeup as well, creating a new story with a quick glance back that we can enjoy in the upcoming fashions for spring and summer of 2019. Topshop Unique really tapped into the eighties and new wave for the fashion show, and Paul Smith also gave the ‘80s their due with light make up designed by Petros Petrohilos.
#2. Flat Sandals
Flats were on nearly every runway, and though that is not unexpected for a spring and summer collection, some collections featured only flat sandals. Victoria by Victoria Beckham showed her entire collection with different color slide in sandals. Several of Vivienne Westwood’s spring collection ensembles were set with flat slide-ins or leather sandals.
The shoes were subtle and easy to see as a staple for people looking for daily footwear. The inclusion of slides and slip-ons is very exciting as these options were immensely popular during New York Fashion Week as well. This only confirms the hotness of this current trend, which shows no signs of stopping or stalling.
The most out of ordinary flats were offered by Christopher Kane, which were those uber-popular crocs you and your family have been wearing when hanging around in your backyard!
#3. Futuristic Silver
Silver was a very big trend for the upcoming spring and summer 2019 fashion season. In London, silver was seen on several runways, including Versus Versace by Donatella Versace. Silver was used in a cool new lightweight fabric to create these fluttering looks with silver accents and accessories.
Silver was not only seen on the runway for Versus Versace, but also in Topshop Unique and Mulberry. Silver was used from dangling jewelry to silver shimmering color.
#4. Loose Fits
While loose fits could be fit in with the eighties aesthetic, it stands alone. Victoria by Victoria Beckham used loose fitting wide legged, ultra long pants to create a beautiful set of looks. Trench coats were designed to fall just right when they are open and when they are closed; it still maintains a certain shape. During London Fashion Week we have seen a lot of oversized and loose fitting cloaks, jackets, coats and trenches.
#5. Sexy Legs
Legs were one of the most seen accessories during London Fashion Week as well and glammed up thanks to the outfits. Emilia Wickstead had a showing in a beautiful blue pattern that looked exceptional with a great length short. Versus by Versace showed a lot of leg with incredible and sexy dresses.
Mulberry and David Koma also showed off the legs with very high slits and well placed hemlines. The point has been made that everyone finds a piece of fashion they can deeply relate to and put themselves in. If your dream aesthetic is to show your side of life, these clothes will allow you to do so.
#6. Yellow Intrusion
While yellow was certainly strongly featured in New York Fashion Week for spring and summer 2019, this trend certainly continued strongly in London. Between the two Fashion Weeks fashion lovers have seen strong, bright yellow colors in shades that will work beautifully on several different skin tones. This is by far one of the most inclusive and helpful spring 2019 fashion trends from London Fashion Week that have come out.
In London, the use of this color was seen in several ensembles by David Koma as an example. Every model looked spring and summer appropriate and ready to go. The different shades of yellow were shown quite differently in designs that stood alone as beautiful designs or were integrated as the main color in a stunning piece.
There are plenty of other colors floating around, but these are the most prevalent, the most popular and it is easy to see how integral this color will be throughout next spring and summer.
#7. Wet Hair, Don’t Care
Out of shower wet hair was trending on the London Fashion Week runway, making an appearance at Versus Versace, Markus Lupfer, Christopher Kane, Simone Rocha and others. This is by far the freshest spring 2019 fashion trend from London Fashion Week, as who doesn’t like feeling the breeze in wet hair when the sun is shining so bright?
#8. Feminine Ruffles
Like New York’s pretty frills, the London Fashion Week spring 2019 fashion trends also feature an abundance of pretty ruffles that add drama and extra femininity to the dresses, tops and even accessories showcased. From Mary Katrantzou to Peter Pilotto to Bora Aksu to Molly Gaddard to Mulberry to Preen, ruffles were everywhere in the British capital, and we can’t feel happier about this new trend!
#9. Asymmetrical Hemlines
Symmetry is boring this spring, as asymmetry is in and the use of deconstruction stayed strong throughout the London Fashion Week shows. Especially we fell in love with J.W. Anderson’s asymmetrical dresses and jackets, but this trend was also spotted a lot at Simone Rocha, Preen, Comme des Garcons and Yohji Yamamoto.
#10. Statement Sleeves
Trying to evoke some eccentric and out of ordinary feelings, some designers ditches standard sleeves when designing their dresses and tops, instead opting for deconstruction and some puffed-up variations. Simone Rocha, Emilia Wickstead, Preen and Ashley Williams are some of the fashion houses that decided to inject interest in this part of clothing, making frilled, ruffled and billowing sleeves a separate fashion trend for spring/ summer 2019!
