Newspaper basket for beginners step by step
I stumbled into the network on such creativity as weaving from newspaper tubes. Interested, decided to try. Reviewed more than a dozen master classes. Externally, the products are not inferior to the braids made of wicker. And for home use, they are quite durable and for a gift - nice!
Using various varnishes, paints and impregnations for coating when weaving, you can create braids of all colors of the rainbow.
And decorating baskets with beads, flowers, ribbons or appliqués using the deck page technique can completely turn them into works of art.
Here's what I got.
You will need:
1. Newspaper sheets
2. PVA glue
3. Knitting needle
4. Scissors, stationery knife
5. Paint (acrylic), varnish (Finish varnish), alcohol-based wood stain (origon, larch, lemon ....)
6. Brushes for glue and paint.
7. Basis for weaving
First, you need to determine the direction of the fiber paper. The direction should be longitudinal. There are several ways to determine direction. Here is one of them: stretch the edges of a sheet of paper between the nails of two fingers. In the transverse direction of the fibers, the edge becomes wavy, wrinkles are not formed in the longitudinal direction. From strips of this size will be obtained thin tubes for an elegant product. If thicker tubes are needed, then the width of the strips and the diameter of the spokes need to be increased.
I paint the tubes with a brush on the usual oilcloth. I use only stain on the basis of alcohol. On the recommendation of one master class, I tried to paint the pipes with water-based stain - I spoiled everything. From wetting the place of gluing disperses and the tubes unfold. Do not repeat mistakes.
Stage 1: Preparation
We mark the newspaper on strips on 7 cm.
On the lining board, cut the newspaper into strips with a clerical knife.
The angle of the spokes on the newspaper page - 10 ° -15 °.
To begin to wind a strip it is necessary very densely, winding edges of the newspaper on a spoke. Tubes are obtained in white if the white field of the newspaper strip is left to the right.
Fasten the edge of the newspaper with glue.
Ready tubules at this stage can optionally be painted in the right color and allowed to dry thoroughly. You can paint and after the finished product. And if you cover with paint and top with varnish - then no one will guess that this basket is made from an ordinary old magazine (newspaper).
2 Stage: Weaving
Work will begin with weaving the bottom. It all depends on the size of your product. For the weaving presented to your attention baskets, you need 30 (thirty) tubules 50 cm long.
We take 10 tubes (further: faces) 45-50 cm long. We spread them in pairs.
We fold the working tube in half and wrap it around the first pair of rays.
Getting started can be marked by a marker on the edge of the ray.
We twine each pair of rays with a string. Work tubes cross, then one working tube comes from above a pair of rays, the other from below. As soon as the length of the working tube ends, we increase it (insert the end of the next tube into the hole of the previous one).
We weave two rows to a pair of rays marked with a marker.
The third and fourth row weave in one ray.
Workers are directed to the middle of the bottom.
We form the edge of the bottom. The first ray (marked with a marker), skirting the next one, directing it to the center of the bottom and so along the circle.
We start the last ray from the bottom into the loop of the first ray.
Next, we twist each ray of 4 (four) rows with a rope, slightly bending back the rays from the center.
5 (fifth) row decorate wooden beads with a diameter of 16 cm. It will take 6 pcs. beads.
6 (sixth) and 7 (seventh) rows, knit with a string. The work is almost over! It remains to trim the extra length of the work tubes and fill them between the rows with knitting needles.
Cut off the ends of the worker tubes with scissors.
To complete the basket handle, leave three (3) little rays on each side, separating them into clothespins. We drip a drop of glue at the base of the remaining rays and cut them with scissors.
Connect the ends of the handle strings of the basket.
Before weaving the handle, we drop a drop of glue on the edge of the tube and fix it with a clothespin. We twist the handle with a straw along the entire length.
At the end of weaving the handle onto the end of the tube we drop a drop of glue and fix it with a clothespin. The main work is over.
Stage 3: Coloring
For strength, we saturate the basket with PVA glue, we will give it the desired shape. Let the glue dry completely.
Paint the basket with white acrylic paint. (you can add color-paste, various dyes or stain with stain).
We cut out motifs from the napkin and make a page. Cover the basket with Finish - varnish, dry the finished work.
