The App Every Bookworm Will Love
He’s the man responsible for TV favourites Downton Abbey and Doctor Thorne, and we have a feeling that Julian Fellowes’s latest project will have you just as gripped as his most popular shows.
In a publishing first, Julian’s new project is Belgravia – a story in 11 episodes published week by week in the tradition of Charles Dickens. But in a thoroughly modern twist, Belgravia comes in the form of a free app, which can be used on your desktop, tablet or smartphone so you can read at home or on the go.
The story opens on the eve of the Battle of Waterloo, 15 June 1815, when the Duchess of Richmond threw a ball in Brussels for the Duke of Wellington. Just before 1am, word came that Napoleon had unexpectedly crossed the border. The Duke of Wellington and his officers left the ball immediately to prepare for war. Twists and turns ensue as we look deeper into the lives of the guests that evening and 25 years on from the ball, while gossip and intrigue spreads…
The first episode of Belgravia will be available to read or listen to (read by Juliet Stevenson) for free, then you can either buy the next episode for £1.49 or subscribe to the series for £9.99. New episodes will be released every Thursday straight to your app and of course, in true Julian style, you can expect plenty of twists and cliffhanger endings.
Each weekly episode will contain extra content around the story, such as videos, music, character portraits, competitions and much more. So if you’re the type who devours books and is always looking for the next story, this could be perfect.
