What is information?

It is practically impossible to explain in a single definition, in brief, what information is. This concept is still one of the most controversial and discussed in science, and mankind is looking for some common properties and qualities that are inherent in this multifaceted concept. But let's try to select the most accurate set of meanings, falling under the term "information".

The term "information" is derived from the Latin word informatio, which is translated into Russian as a representation, interpretation, concept, awareness, etc. In modern everyday life, this term is filled with a variety of meanings in different areas of human activity. So in the technical environment under the information have in mind a certain set of characters that carries some information. In the operational-search activity under the information have in mind some information about the actions, characters, actions and biographies of individuals of interest. In everyday life, at the household level, information is a collection of all the knowledge and information we use.News, weather, prices for products and services, gossip, time of day or year - all this information.

Why do we need information

If in special cases we need information in order to pick up clothes for going out, calculate the necessary amount of money to go to the store or find and detain a dangerous criminal, in a broader sense, we all need information to interact with the outside world. The sounds that we hear, the colors and silhouettes that we see, the temperature that we feel - all this is information for us, but the sounds themselves, like everything else, are not information if there is no one to hear, see, perceive because information is not the fact itself, but the relationship between the fact that carries the information and the consumer of information - by us.
